Where quant trading firms are based

This page regroups the 126 quantitative and institutional trading firms in the directory by the cities where they list offices. A firm appears under every city where it has a listed office, so the same name can show up several times. The busiest hubs in this directory are London (48), New York (48), Chicago (45), Amsterdam (38), Singapore (37), Hong Kong (28).

Office lists come from the firms' own sites and public profiles and can lag openings and closures. The directory covers firms that trade their own capital plus a number of well-known systematic investment managers; it is not a census of every quant firm in a country. Firms missing? How the hubs differ

Chicago grew out of the CME and CBOE trading pits, which is why it is dense with options and futures market makers (SIG, Optiver, IMC, Wolverine, Belvedere, Chicago Trading Company and many smaller firms). New York has the largest concentration of systematic investment managers and equity trading firms. Amsterdam is Europe's options and ETF market-making centre — Optiver, IMC, Flow Traders and Da Vinci all started there — and London combines FX and fixed-income trading (XTX Markets) with quant hedge funds and research firms (G-Research, Marshall Wace, Qube).

In Asia-Pacific, Singapore and Hong Kong host regional desks for most global firms, Sydney has a cluster of home-grown market makers (Tibra, VivCourt, Mako), and India (Gurugram, Mumbai, Gandhinagar for GIFT City) has grown quickly as both a market and a technology base. Crypto market makers (Wintermute, GSR, Keyrock, Gravity Team in Riga) tend to be smaller and more spread out.
